At the access-road leading to the new site of Peakville Urban College, I saw a sign that read: “Identity cards compulsory beyond this point”. The whole site, with fences, gates and checkpoints, looked more like a secretive research facility than an educational establishment. It is all symptomatic of a society in which mutual trust and respect have broken down.
I supplied some clothes for the Old Man’s body to the funeral director.
I informed the local council that the Old Man had died, and was told that there would be a refund of his council tax since 19 December.
For lunch, I visited my “local”, the Moon Under Water.
