Non-captive audience

In the mid-1960s, the Deceased Lady used to visit her cousin Mrs Lee on Tuesday afternoons. I was never present, but the Deceased Lady told me some of the things they talked about. It seemed that Mrs Lee kept coming out with all kinds of specious rubbish — some of it self-serving, and some of it to do with boosting her son, my cousin F.
After some time, the Deceased Lady grew tired of Mrs Lee’s lectures, and she put an end to the regular visits.
In later years, cousin F could not always resist following in his mother’s footsteps — rarely boosting his children, but often boosting his own views, values and behaviour.
