I found various things in the small wardrobe in my bedroom, including a baby congratulations card from when I was born. It was from Mr & Mrs Lee — the Deceased Lady’s cousin and her husband. (They were the parents of cousin Y and cousin F.) In the same wardrobe I also found the Old Man’s uniform cap from his wartime service in the Forces.
Lately, on the driveway of what used to be the Thornboroughs’ house, the little white VW is parked just inside the gates. Behind it is a grey saloon car — but between the two cars are the three full-size bins. Not a convenient arrangement, one would have thought. The family’s other car, which now is a sports coupé, is parked on the road.
