When I arrived at the Old Man’s house, there was one daffodil in bloom next to the drive, not far from the garage door. Some other daffodils were budding.
On the forecourt at Bert’s, where the blue car usually is parked, was a little silver Renault MPV. Both men were on duty, and Short Woman — I hadn’t seen her for several weeks. There were a lot of customers in the shop, mainly middle-aged and older, but one or two in their twenties. It was good to see Bert’s getting plenty of custom; I had been wondering whether the shop was running at a loss, and might have to close down.
