Before 07:00, while packing the car, I see Mr & Mrs CJ on their back garden, hanging out washing. We talk briefly.
Their daughter Della is away for the weekend, and so Charlie and Karl are staying with Mr & Mrs CJ for a couple of nights. “I didn’t hear a thing,” I truthfully tell them. Del and Della are finally about to move house.
All this visit, the GS family’s silver estate car has been missing from their drive. Perhaps the car has finally been sold. However, a dark VW Bora has been parked alongside the house, partly on the pavement, and facing towards the Old Man’s house. I don’t believe the car has moved an inch at any time this past week.
Earlier in the week, I gave Mrs CJ a bunch of twelve daffodils harvested from the clumps of them by the side of the Old Man’s driveway. Now, I cut the remaining twenty daffodils, and take them back to Suburbia Somnolenta. The daffodils alongside the garage are still budding.
My journey home to Suburbia Somnolenta is quick and smooth — or smooth except for when I drive over potholes.
