When I phone Dorcas and Henry to offer them my contact details, they are pleased to receive them.
Dorcas passes me over to Henry, who tells me that when Naomi left school, she worked in an electrical shop. She was given some work that she couldn’t cope with, and instead of telling anyone, she hid it in a drawer. When all this came to light, the management were prepared not to make a big issue of it, but Naomi told her parents that she wasn’t going back to work; and she has never worked since. For a long time she was reclusive, and spent most of her time in her bedroom, reading.
Until Henry tells me this, I haven’ t known that Naomi has ever had a job.
